What corporate behaviour means
Corporate behaviour is the way people in an organisation treat each other, customers and the organisation itself: how they communicate, keep commitments, follow policies and handle disagreement. When it reflects clear values and ethics, teams trust each other, work together better and have fewer incidents of conflict or misconduct.
What workplace civility looks like
- Respectful language in person, in meetings and in emails and chats.
- Punctuality and keeping promises.
- Listening without interrupting, and disagreeing without personal attacks.
- Including colleagues and respecting differences.
- Following the organisation’s code of conduct and policies.
- Taking responsibility for mistakes.
How to develop positive corporate behaviour
- Agree on the values and standards you expect, and write them down.
- Have leaders model the behaviour consistently.
- Train staff on the standards and on the skills behind them, such as communication and conflict handling.
- Recognise good behaviour, and deal with incivility early, fairly and privately.
- Review progress regularly using incident records and staff feedback.
